Azienda Il Grillesino

Azienda il Grillesino is a Tuscan winery from the Compagnia del Vino group. Since 1997 they have been trying to produce innovative and high quality wines that stand out from the crowd. Grillesino was the first estate to be used for its own wine production. 

Wines that are different - Winery Il Grillesino

Compagnia del Vino acquired in 1990 an estate of about 20 hectares in Maremma, near the town of Magliano, a classic wine region with great potential. The name of the estate derives from the Grillese river that flows nearby. The following grape varieties are grown here today:

• Sangiovese
• Ciliegiolo
• Vermentino
• Viognier

Care of the native grape varieties

At first, the production was focused on Morellino di Scansano, a single-varietal Sangiovese wine with DOCG status. In addition to this grape variety, Cabernet was also cultivated at the beginning. Professional help was sought from the Florence University of Agriculture and the Bordeaux Oenological Institute to identify optimal cultivation and processing methods in relation to the climate and soils for the grape varieties.

The winery has now grown to 40 hectares and has a bottle production of 220,000 bottles per year. The above-mentioned grape varieties form the basis of Grillesino's wines. Specialties include a rosé made from Sangiovese or a sweet wine made from Viognier.
