The AMARANTA di Ulisse Montepulciano d'Abruzzo DOC from Tenuta Ulisse is a cru. This powerful Italian red wine flows into the glass in a very full and elegant ruby red. On the nose it shows very complex and generous aromas with the wonderful hints of plums and cherry jam. Underpinning these fruit flavors are nuances of tobacco and a spicy finish.
On the palate, this impressive Montepulciano d'Abruzzo is beautifully balanced and complex with pleasing tannins well integrated into the structure. Full-bodied and powerful, this red wine is a real treat with superbly balanced alcoholic potential. With a long, warm and opulent finish, the Amaranta convinces all along the line.
A wine of unquestionable class, a wonderful homage full of love and respect to the most important red wine grape of Abruzzo.
It is worth noting that AMARANTA di Ulisse, like the other wines of Tenuta Ulisse, is excellent value for money.
Vinification of the Amaranta di Ulisse from Tenuta Ulisse
The grapes for this Cru Montepulciano d'Abruzzo grow in very old vineyards on equally old vines, which on average have already been able to dig their roots into the calcareous, fine clay soil for 30-35 years. The very warm environment and low rainfall, together with strong fluctuations between day and night temperatures, ensure that the grapes can ripen well without losing their acidity.
After the highly selective manual harvest, a part is picked overripe for the Amaranta, the grapes are broken up in the cellar of Tenuta Ulisse, crushed and the must is fermented under temperature control. The Amaranta is then aged for 9 to 12 months in high-quality French and American oak barriques.
The autochthonous grape variety Montepulciano d'Abruzzo has experienced a real renaissance in recent years. Until today, not much is known about the origins of this dark grape. For a long time it was attributed to the group of Sangiovese clones. What is certain today, however, is that it is a completely independent autochthonous grape variety. It is grown mainly in the Abruzzo region and in the other regions of central and southern Italy. Thanks to some producers and oenologists and their conscientious work, the Montepulciano grape is experiencing a renaissance as one of the red grape varieties of the highest quality and excellence.
Food recommendation for AMARANTA Montepulciano d'Abruzzo
Enjoy this full-bodied dry red wine with succulent pasta with strong red sauces, roasts of red and dark meat, game, as well as with ripe, spicy cow and sheep cheeses. And why not, of course, sometimes with pizza with rich toppings.
AMARANTA di Ulisse tastes best when drunk at a temperature of 18°C, not too warm.
