The winery Allesverloren is located in the mid-west of South Africa.

The winery Allesverloren in Swartland

Allesverloren Winery - The Jewel of Swartland in South Africa

Swartland (the "Black Country") is located about 100 km north-west of Cape Town and was first explored at the end of the 17th century by a cartographer of the then Governor of the Cape Colony. In the heart of the Swartland community lies the oldest wine estate in the region. Allesverloren bears its name from the beginning of the colonization of this region. The owners at the time returned from an arduous journey through rough terrain from the next largest municipality, Stellenbosch, to find their new home burned to the ground - all was lost.

The Malan winegrowing family

Nothing is lost at Everythingislost

The first wine from Swartland was pressed as early as 1806 - 140 years later, the winery passed into the hands of the Malan family, who still hold the winemaking reins to this day. Danie Malan, fifth generation winemaker at the Allesverloren estate, presses the finest South African wine in the shadow of the mighty Kasteelberg in the picturesque Riebeek Valley.

The grape harvest in the vineyards of Allesverloren

The vines - the soil - the climate

On 227 hectares the different grape varieties are cultivated rich in extract and vinified with the greatest care, such as

  • Chenin Blanc
  • Tinta Barocca
  • Cabernet Sauvignon
  • Shiraz
  • Touriga Nacional

The vineyards range from 170 m to 350 m above sea level. The cold, wet winters and warm, dry summers allow the grapes to ripen very well and gain a high sugar value. Thanks to the westerly winds and cool summer afternoons, the vines refresh throughout the day. The soils in Swartland are marked by shale and weathered sandstone - the roots of the vines can reach deep.

The climate, the soil, the knowledge and experience of the team and the passion allow Allesverloren to create authentic, terroir-specific and unforgettable wines year after year.
