The history of the A. Christmann winery in Gimmeldingen, in the Palatinate, dates back to the end of the 19th century.
Winery A. Christmann - Wines from first sites
The brick manufacturer Johann Martin and his cousin history professor Dr. Ludwig Häusser acquired a small vineyard near Neustadt an der Weinstraße out of pure hobby. The daughter of the professor's son married Eduard Christmann at the beginning of the 20th century. Their second son Arnold gave the winery the name it still bears today: Weingut A. Christmann.
in 1996, Steffen Christmann's parents handed over the management of the winery to the law graduate. Since then, he has been running the family business in the 7th generation by now and the succession also seems to be secured. The daughter Sophie has already completed her studies in viticulture and enology in Geisenheim. Steffen Christmann has converted the farm to biodynamics. He always manages the farm with the awareness that it is only on loan to be managed by the next generation. For him and his family, viticulture means pure passion in harmony with nature.
With the right relationship it works at the winery A. Christmann
Steffen Christmann of the A. Christmann Winery places great importance on maintaining personal contact with the vines. He and his team rely on manual labor in the vineyard for as many work steps as possible. This includes, among other things, removing the leaves from the vines. This allows for quick drying of the grapes after a rain and good aeration of the vines. Manual labor plays a major role in the meticulous, nature-oriented cultivation of the vineyards at the A. Christmann winery. Only grapes with the optimal ripeness after the harvest come to the winery and into the winepress. They are the guarantee for the highest quality. Especially the Riesling wines, which are the dominant variety with more than two thirds of the area, belong year after year to the best dry Riesling wines in all of Germany. They set standards for the category of First and Great Growths. In addition to Riesling, the A. Christmann winery mainly grows Pinot Noir and Pinot Blanc on the vineyards on the Haardtrand in melodious VDP first sites such as Gimmeldinger Biengarten, Ruppertsberger Spieß and Deidesheimer Paradiesgarten.
The A. Christmann Winery can be found in the prestigious wine guides
